Iskandar Widjaja

a true force of nature.
The Strad, December 2011

Curriculum Vitae

Iskandar’s delivery was nothing short of spectacular, and was greeted initially with stunned silence from his awe-struck audience. Few, I doubt, will have witnessed a classical musician of his standard, and this was something very special. His touch was almost passionate, bow movement fluid, fingering precise and his tone subtle yet stirring.
The Jakarta Post, August 2012
Iskandar Widjaja […] emerges as a true force of nature. […] Without in any way losing the structural focus and grip […] he plays with a Grappelli-like fantasy and freedom, that is deeply beguiling. […] There is no doubting the hypnotic intensity of the results, nor Widjaja’s engrossing imperativeness
The Strad, December 2011

Iskandar Widjaja is considered one of the most interesting violinists of the younger generation. The “complexity of his style, his musical imagination with the most varied sonic nuances and facets, as well as his flawless technique and great charisma” [Maestro C. Eschenbach] are praised by colleagues and the media alike. His extremely wide-ranging repertoire is especially focussed on the works of Johann Sebastian Bach.

In his second homeland of Indonesia, he is perceived like a “pop” phenomenon; his medial presence already resulted there in a “trending topic” status (most frequently named term) on twitter©. He collaborates with the premiere-league of classical artists, such as Zubin Mehta, Christoph Eschenbach, Rolando Villazon, David Foster and Fazil Say.

Iskandar Widjaja plays directly into the hearts of his audience with his honest, sympathetic radiance.”
